Fire-rated curtain walls and ceilings
The primary goal of fire- and smoke-resistant doors and windows is to protect lives, and their planning, selection, application, and maintenance require great responsibility. Therefore, doors and windows with fire- and smoke-resistant properties, as well as their manufacturing, must meet the requirements set by various standards and regulations, and their compliance must be verified. Along with these, other aesthetic and practical considerations can be taken into account.
The expertise of Coolfire Ltd. and the suitability and reliability of its products are supported by:
- Pioneers in the domestic introduction of aluminum-framed fire- and smoke-resistant doors and windows
- Experience gained during over 15 years in the market
- The application of fire-resistant doors and windows in numerous buildings and their problem-free use, durability, and maintenance
The Coolfire – Ponzio PF152 EI fire-resistant curtain wall system is currently one of the most advanced solutions contributing to the quality of the construction industry and architectural design services. The vertical glass walls made from unique structured surfaces or the delicate 51 mm wide visible ribs offer a modern, visually striking appearance, suitable for enclosing large areas, including inclined glass roofs. Compared to the fire-rated aluminum systems used for filling the frames (Fire-rated glass walls), the curtain wall system can be manufactured with a narrower rib (or without a rib), creating a higher, continuous wall. Verified by tests, it can be integrated with the Coolfire – Ponzio PE78 EI glass doors and windows. (Fire-rated glass doors and portals)

- EN 12155:2004 Watertightness class: Curtain wall RE1200, Glass ceiling RE1350
- EN 12152:2004 Air permeability AE1200 class
- Inclination angle: Allowed from 0° to 80°
- EN 14693:2004: – Impact resistance for soft and heavy objects weighing 50 kg at angles of 5° – 45°: SB 1200 (H=240 cm) / And for angles between 45° and 80°, classified according to EN 13049:2004 + EN 14019:2006 as class E5/I5 and E5/I4, depending on size – Resistance to upward loads UL3000 (3000 Pa) – Resistance to upward loads DL2500 (2500 Pa)
Special custom solutions, properties:
The development of the Coolfire – Ponzio PF152 fire-rated curtain wall and glass ceiling system provides the opportunity to realize various unique architectural concepts.
- Recommended for both façade and interior applications
- Can be used as a standalone structure or integrated with non-fire-rated curtain wall elements
- The curtain wall sides can be joined at right angles or any other planned angles
- Glass or non-transparent corner solutions are possible
- Based on test results, the Coolfire-Ponzio PE78 EI30, EI60 fire-rated door and window can be integrated into the curtain wall, and the door can also be used in escape routes
- Can be used with fire-rated glass inserts and/or panels
- Available in full and partial configurations
- There are no limitations on the width/height dimensions of the structure
- In addition to its fire protection performance, it has excellent thermal insulation properties: Thermal insulation Curtain Wall: UCW = 0.71 W/m2K (for a structure of 1200 x 2500 mm, with TGU glass UG = 0.5 W/m2K)
- Thermal insulation Glass Ceiling: UCW = 1.1 W/m2K (for a structure of 3000 x 4300 mm, with TGU glass UG = 0.7 W/m2K)
- In addition to fire protection, the glass ceiling also provides protection against natural forces (water, snow load, wind, harmful sun rays), supported by test results
- Glass ceiling slope angle: Allowed from 00 to 800
- The design and shape of the glass ceiling can vary, thanks to triangular and shaped (trapezoidal) glass elements

The PF152 fire-rated curtain wall is recommended for indoor use when full transparency of the surface is an important consideration at the fire compartment boundary, when the space between ceilings is high, and when separation between two rooms is required.
It is also recommended for façades, for taller glass surfaces or glass walls where there is a potential for vertical and horizontal fire spread: negative surfaces of the building section, multi-story buildings, and nearby adjacent buildings.
Fire-rated glass ceilings provide a solution for horizontal fire compartment boundaries, closing off visually striking, bright atriums, communal areas, canopies, or spaces between buildings. They are not designed to support pedestrian traffic; for such applications, the Coolfire Polflam F walkable fire-rated glass ceiling (Fire-rated glass floor) is suitable.
Large glass surfaces and unique geometric shapes make the building stand out, visually striking, and prominent.
Fire-rated curtain wall system can be designed as:
- Point-supported glazing with semi-structured design, with recessed 24 mm silicone insert, creating a homogeneous, uniform, smooth surface on the external plane
- With a narrow, 51 mm wide cover profile projecting from the plane of the glass
- The durability and quality of the aluminum surface’s factory coating and special wood-effect finish are guaranteed by the QUALICOAT 1504 2023 DE Certification
When selecting the receiving structures, the fire-rated structure installation is only permitted based on measurement results and for types defined in the permit. In all cases, it is necessary to determine the exact parameters during the building design phase.
For the installation of the Coolfire PF 152 fire-rated glass ceiling, a sized receiving structure is always required, which can be:
- Concrete and concrete lintels
- Concrete and steel lintels with fire protection cladding
- Steel structural elements with fire protection cladding
For each application, the design of the load-bearing structure and all elements and connections exposed to static loads must be checked through static calculations.
